Do You Understand How Blessed You Really Are?

Do You Understand How Blessed You Really Are?

Do you REALLY understand how blessed you are?

Think about it… Here you are reading this message from a computer that you have access to.  You have eyesight to “see” and read this message. You are wearing comfortable clothes and can easily get a glass of clean drinking water if so desired.

The reason why I’m sharing these things is because for many people, they do not have ALL that you have. And sometimes, it’s only when something is “missing” that we truly appreciate its value.

When was the last time you thank God for giving your eyesight?  Or when was the last time that you paused to appreciate drinking a glass of water?  Or when have you go into your closet and just thank God for having so many options as to what to wear?

I bring this to your attention because unfortunately, many people focus on what I don’t have, rather than acknowledge and celebrate what they do have.

By appreciating what you do have, it transforms your entire demeanor.

Let’s do an exercise.  After reading this sentence, just close your eyes and reflect on 20 things that you are grateful to have in your life.  Ready, get set, GO!

So how was that for you?

To truly appreciate all that you have, write 5 things that you are grateful to have in your life.

  1. _____________________________________________________
  2. _____________________________________________________
  3. _____________________________________________________
  4. _____________________________________________________
  5. _____________________________________________________

This is such a wonderful exercise because it truly allows you to take a moment to reflect on some of the blessings that you have.  It is definitely clear that you have a lot to be grateful for and so now is the time to focus more on what you have rather than what you don’t have.  By being grateful and appreciative for what you do have, your perspective towards life will be more positive.

So your Opportunity Exercise is: For the next seven (7) days, you will close your eyes, twice a day, for 5 minutes, and just focus on all the things that you are grateful to have in your life.  Reflect on your loving relationships, your health, your freedom to make choices and etc.  Enjoy!

What is your feedback to this message?

  • Thanks for this fantastic reminder of all we have to be thankful for. My list is way longer than 5, but to start there: (1) a husband who took care of me and our kids, waiting on us hand and foot for the past 5 days because we were sick; (2) a home with heat, air conditioning and working plumbing; (3) access to healthful foods and opportunities to exercise in safety; (4) good schools for my children; and (5) a thriving family business. Oh! And of course friends like Marlon and Syreeta! WOOT!!
