Eve, I can relate to the art of balance - earning a living and spending quality time with family. What I have found to help is scheduling specific times on my calendar where I spend "quality" time with my loved ones. For me, turning off my cell phone so I can be totally present and in the moment has truly helped because there are no additional distractions. Isn't it amazing how when the phone rings, you feel obligated to answer or at the very least, to look who's calling on the caller i.d. screen?

Not enough! Just today I missed my son's performance at his school, because a project at work kept me longer than anticipated. It seems I will never win the battle of earning a living and spending time with family.

Perhaps the word "quality" is the true emphasis here. We need to spend focused time, interacting, talking and nurturing our family relationships -- with our children and our spouses. I, for one, often say "how was your day?" without much personal and tender thought to the question or response. This blog will make me think more about truly connecting.
