In less than 4 weeks, Syreeta will give birth to our next child. We are very excited and truly grateful to God.
As we all know, in life, there continues to be a variety of experiences for us to have.
10 days ago, we rushed to the hospital emergency room at 11:15PM because my wife had a high fever and was in serious pain. Waking me up from my sleep, Syreeta was scared because she didn’t know what was happening within her body. All I could do was pray continuously for God’s strength and protection as we got dressed, drove to the hospital, and had the doctors and nurses run tests to determine what was happening.
So many thoughts and questions were battling in my mind… “What is the purpose of this God?”… “Was there anything I could have done differently?”… “Will she and the baby-to-be survive?”
On the outside, I was doing my best to maintain a strong face to instill reassurance within my wife that everything was going to be ok. And yet, on the inside, I was praying non-stop and reciting scriptures to build my faith that everything will be ok.
I’ll never forget when the doctor returned to our room and said to Syreeta, “We’re going to keep you overnight so that we may run more tests and get you feeling better.”
My heart dropped because I was not expecting to hear that statement. I was thinking that everything would be fine and we would be sent home.
Well, we ended up spending not just one night in the hospital but rather, we spent three LONG nights in the hospital. Each night, I slept on the couch next to Syreeta’s bed in the hospital.
Now although neither of us were expecting to spend the weekend in the hospital, I must share with you that there were some blessings revealed to us through this experience.
Living in Charlotte with no blood relatives in the city with us can appear on the outside that we’re all alone with no family. But that’s not the case.
Although we have no actual relatives in Charlotte, we are definitely blessed with an extended “family” in our new city.
God truly revealed how blessed we are because so many people supported us through this ordeal. We are truly grateful for:
- Our babysitter who was willing to get out of bed and spend the night at our home to make sure our daughter Jade was safe,
- The entire hospital staff, doctors, specialists, nurses and administrators that were so reassuring and professional,
- The Lavelles welcoming Jade into their home for the entire weekend while we were in the hospital,
- Carla, Syreeta’s close friend, who works in the hospital and helped put Syreeta at ease,
- Our WellSpring Church family, who continued to pray for us,
- Wendy, Patrice, Vaneta and Frances who were willing to either cook a meal or watch Jade, and
- So many others who sent emails, text messages and left voice mail messages with encouragement.
Yes, this unexpected weekend in the hospital was a surprise. And although it “disrupted” our schedules, it was a blessing in disguise because it allowed Syreeta and me to realize just how blessed we are with so many wonderful, selfless and loving people in our life in Charlotte.
For the entire month of March, Syreeta and I are going to keep a journal of the things that we grateful for.
Personally, I believe EVERY single day, there are blessings and miracles happening in our lives. That’s right! EVERY SINGLE DAY! But unfortunately, most of us get so caught up in the BUSY-ness of life that we don’t slow down long enough to reflect and appreciate what is good about each particular day.
