Why Am I The Way I Am?

Why Am I The Way I Am?

Why?

Have you ever asked yourself, “Why am I the way I am?”

There was a time in my life when I did not like who I was.  I was very insecure.  I remember when I was a young child, trying to wash my skin away while taking a bath.  I had a complex about my legs and so I would only wear long pants even when the temperature was scorching hot.

It wasn’t until I realized that God created me the way I am that my life took on NEW meaning.

I stopped comparing myself to other people.

Isn’t it interesting how we think, “The grass is greener on the other side of the fence?”

Are you comparing yourself to other people?

What does that do for you?

It probably isn’t really serving you because you never win.  For those whom you feel are “better” than you, you feel insecure and lacking.  And for those whom you feel you are “better” than, you feel proud.  Either way, by comparing yourself to others, this does not create a powerful resource for your life.  By comparing yourself to others, you will always be on an emotional rollercoaster because you will be able to find someone who is doing “better” than you and someone not doing as well as you.

Once I realized that I am special just the way I am, I stopped comparing myself to other people.

Rather than compare yourself to others, let’s start comparing yourself to your previous day.  That’s where true growth is experienced.  By acknowledging your growth, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and this will transform your life.

So your Opportunity Exercise is: Each day, for the next seven (7) days, you will write your answer to this question: “What did I do today to grow?”  This is a powerful question because it allows you to focus on your daily growth.   Feel free to share your insights with your family and friends so they too may start appreciating their unique identity.  Hopefully, they will be encouraged by your example and start acknowledging their daily growth too.
