Who is the “Simon” in Your Life?
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Do you remember playing the game, “Simon Says” as a child? Did you win?… To win the game, you would only follow the instructions that Simon says. If Simon doesn’t say it, then you don’t do it. If you do something that Simon didn’t say, then you lose.
Although I no longer play the “Simon Says” game, I have come to the realization that I am still being influenced by “Simon Says” today, just a different type of “Simon Says”.
Every day, I am being influenced by the Simon of what the media reports, the Simon of what my family and friends think, the Simon of what commercial advertising promote, the Simon of what the “experts” say, and the Simon of what the Bible communicates to me.
Can you relate?
I’m sure you can because we are all being influenced by what we hear, see, and read.
So who is the “Simon” in your life that has the greatest influence on your life?
For me, there was a time when it was definitely what my family and friends thought. Their opinions greatly influenced what I thought, said and did. As I grew to understand that everyone has their opinion and that doesn’t mean it’s “right”, I then gave more Simon power to what I saw on TV, read in newspapers or heard on the radio. I eventually realized that this was not the true source because once again, everyone has an opinion and it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily “right”.
Finally, I had the revelation… “Let me make God, the source of everything, my #1 influence because He created me.” I encourage you to also make God the major “Simon” in your life because you were born on purpose. In order to understand God’s wisdom, spend time reading the Bible and pray to Him for direction.
When I was single, God comforted my heart by reminding me that I am never alone because He is always with me. As I spent more with God, I became more comfortable with who I am. God transformed my thinking by having me feel perfectly whole and complete as a single person. Trust me, He will do the same for you. All you have to do is make God the true “Simon” of your life.
