“If I knew better, I would do better.”
This was the statement I heard recently and it really touched me because looking back on my life and the choices I’ve made, I realize that I made some mistakes in how I viewed sex.
When I was younger, I considered sex to be an indicator of my manhood. Basically, the more beautiful women I slept with, the more I would be identified as being “The Man!”
How ridiculous is this?
Do my sexual conquests really equate to my manhood?
It’s terribly unfortunate how children, boys and girls, are conditioned at an early age to think having sex as a teenager is just the normal way of life. Through what you see on TV, what you hear in music lyrics, and what your friends talk about, we’re all being conditioned to believe that “having sex” is the ultimate.
My youngest brother Lance is a 30-year-old virgin. Years ago, I thought it was strange that he made the commitment to be celibate until marriage. But now, I truly respect my brother’s decision to be 100% committed to following God’s word because living a God-centered life brings blessings.
Listen up! I’m not here to pass judgment on anyone. We all fall short and continue to have made mistakes that we later regret. However, what I want you to hear, loud and clear, is this: Regardless of what you’ve done in your past, today is a NEW day.
So moving forward with your life, ask yourself these 7 questions because they are designed to help you ultimately answer, “Is it more beneficial for me to be celibate until I get married or have sex while I’m dating?”
- What are some of the potential negative consequences of having sex?
- What are some of the potential positive consequences of having sex?
- Are the positive consequences worth the possibility of experiencing the negative consequences of having sex?
- Have you either personally experienced or heard of others having their relationship change for the worst after having sex?
- Does love equal sex and does sex equal love?
- What are some ways, outside of sex, that you can express your love for someone?
- By being celibate, how much more special will it be for you and your spouse to express your love by having sex on your wedding night?
My intention for having you answer these 7 “Celibate – Sex” questions is that you will be more conscious regarding the choices that you are making for your life. It does not really matter what the media promotes or what your friends say, you are special and your body is special.
I encourage you to pray to God for strength, direction and protection when it comes to being celibate until marriage.
