Are You a Giver or a Taker?

by Marlon on October 6, 2010

Are You a Giver or a Taker?

“There is one who scatters, yet increases more.  And there is one who withholds more than is right but it leads to poverty.  The generous soul will be made rich and he who waters will also be watered himself.”   Proverbs 11: 24 – 25

Are you a Giver or a Taker?

Are you a Giver or a Taker?

So what’s your answer?… Are you a GIVER or a TAKER?

What do you say?

Yes, I know the politically correct answer is to say, “I’m a giver!”

But if we’re really truthful, most of us are Takers!

We’ve all heard the cliché, “It’s better to give than to receive.”  And yet, most people are Takers.  Why is this?

As I reflect on this question, I believe it’s because most people do not come from a space of abundance.  They do not understand the power of God’s promises for their lives.

I know because I’ve been there.  There have been times in my life when I have not come from a space of abundance but rather, from a space of scarcity.

Have you ever asked yourself these questions…“How am I going to pay all my bills?”…  “Where did all my money go?”…  “Why does there seem to never be enough?”

God’s way and the world’s way are often in conflict.  Read the above scripture again and reflect on what it is communicating to you.

Many people think that by holding onto their money, they are being smart.  But God’s word states, “The generous soul will be made rich…”

I encourage you to trust God’s word and live your life from a space of abundance where you bless others with your prayers, time, talents, finances, words and actions.

When you give to others, you truly do receive so much more in return.

Questions of Reflection

How would you live your life if you knew your money would never run out?

Do you really appreciate ALL that you have right now in your life (i.e. your health, your creativity, your relationships)?

Taking Care of Business

by Marlon on July 6, 2010

I just finished re-reading Lee Jenkin’s “Taking Care of Business” and let me tell you, it is an amazing book that shares insights for how we may apply God’s word when dealing with our finances.

I encourage you to read it because with all that is going on in today’s society, our families need to apply more sound principles as it relates to money.

Lee Jenkins' "Taking Care of Business"

Did you know that in the Bible, there are approximately 500 verses on prayer, fewer than 500 on faith, and more than 2,350 verses on how to handle money and possessions?

When I read this on page 19 of “Taking Care of Business”, I had to stop for a moment and reflect on what this really means.

Wow!  God has given detailed insights for how to manage our money but yet, how many of us are truly seeking and studying God’s perspective on finances and money management?

I encourage you to read “Taking Care of Business” because it is very insightful.

The chapters are entitled:

  1. Wealth from the Inside Out – Seeking the substance of wealth and not just the symbols.
  2. What’s God Got to Do with It? – The role you play and the role God plays in your finances.
  3. Charting Your Financial Destiny – Developing an action plan to achieving your Goals.
  4. From Financial Bondage to Freedom – How to get out and stay out of debt.
  5. Finding Purpose in Your Work – Viewing your career as a calling and not just a job.
  6. Spending Your Money Wisely – Evaluating why and where you spend your money.
  7. Giving Back to God – Sharing God’s blessing and reaping the benefits.
  8. Putting Your Money to Work – Principles for saving and investing your money.
  9. Dividends of Honesty and Integrity – Why moral decisions have economic consequences.
  10. Investing in Your Family – How to build generational wealth through the family.
  11. Leaving a Lasting Financial Legacy – How to protect and pass on your assets.

Question:  What resources do you utilize when making your financial decisions?

Question:  What are some books, CDs, DVDs or other resources that have helped you in developing a  financial plan for your future?

Do share your feedback because we can all grow from one another.

We appreciate you.

What have you done, are currently doing or will do to ensure that money does not become a major problem in your family?

January 12, 2010

Various studies indicate that the #1 reason for divorce is because of issues with money. Why is this?
